Youth Swim Summer - 2022

Youth Swim Classes at Ascension Borgess Health & Fitness Our swim program follows recommendations from the American Red Cross swim levels to help your child develop safety, competence and confidence in and around the water.

Summer Swim Session Runs July 6 - August 16

Payment is for 6 lessons in a session. Classes meet once per week over a 6 week period.

**All classes require a minimum of 3 participants in order to run for the session.

Parent & Child 1: Designed for ages 6-24 months. This class helps familiarize children with the water and teach swimming readiness skills. Parents are provided safety information and learn techniques they can use to orient their children to the water. (One adult must accompany the child in the water for this class- for safety reasons, we cannot allow multiple parents in the pool with their child.)

Parent & Child 2: Designed for ages 2-4 years old. Improve skills learned in Parent & Child 1 and teach more advanced skills. Both Parent & Child will continue to build on water safety knowledge. (One adult must accompany the child in the water for this class- for safety reasons, we cannot allow multiple parents in the pool with their child.)

Preschool Aquatics - Level 1: Familiarize to the aquatic environment and help them acquire rudimentary basic aquatic skills. Children need no prior swim experience to register. This course helps to begin to develop positive attitudes and safe practices in and around the water.

Preschool Aquatics - Level 2: Build and improve skills learned in Preschool Aquatics Level 1 and increase knowledge of water safety topics introduced in Preschool Aquatics Level 1.

Preschool Aquatics - Level 3: Advanced class for children who have completed Preschool Aquatics Levels 1 & 2. Must be able to swim independently without flotation or assistance for 15 feet on their front and back prior to registering.

American Red Cross Level I: Our beginning level for children 6 and over. This class will teach children to swim 15 feet on their front and back, introduce glides and floats and get children comfortable putting their face in the water.

American Red Cross Level II: Children should be able to confidently swim 15 feet on their front and back and be comfortable with their face in the water prior to registering for Level II. Children will begin to develop swim strokes and increase endurance.

American Red Cross Level III: Children should be able to swim 25 feet and have learned the basics of front and back crawl prior to enrolling. This level introduces rotary breathing and perfects the front crawl. Breast stoke kick, dolphin kick, and elementary back are also introduced.

American Red Cross Level IV: Level 4 continues the process of perfecting all swim strokes, increases endurance, and introduces all swim turns and sidestroke.

American Red Cross Level V: Level 5 focuses on increasing swim endurance and refining all strokes.

When you arrive for the first week of swim lessons, please visit our check-in table located in the lobby. Further information will be provided on where to go for your lesson.

Please limit the number of additional people brought to lessons as this can be extremely distracting for the children and causes safety issues on deck. We recommend parents/observers for Levels 2-5 watch from the hallway overlooking the pool deck. For Parent & Child and Preschool Aquatic Classes, we recommend one parent observe from the pool deck and others observe from the hallway. In order to keep the pool deck clean for our members and swim lesson participants, we ask that any family members who are wearing street shoes to use the provided shoe coverings located near the locker room door closest to the pool deck. Please return shoe coverings to the baskets when exiting the pool deck.

Everyone entering the water MUST take a cleansing shower before entering the pools per Health Department requirements.

Masks are strongly encouraged for unvaccinated individuals 2 and older.

All families will be provided a colored access card for use during their 6 week swim lesson session which they must show to the front desk to gain access to the facility each week. Cards change with each swim lesson session, so please make sure to return our cards at the end of your 6 week session.
