Doula Program

Why a doula? “If a doula were a drug, it would be unethical not to use it.” - Dr. John Kennell

Our doulas provide continuous support to birthing families. They bring their passion for birth, resources of their training and experience to empower and assist families to help achieve the healthiest, most satisfying birthing experience possible.

The Columbia St. Mary’s Ozaukee Campus doulas are trained professionals. Many of our doulas hold additional credentials in various areas of pregnancy, including childbirth education and prenatal fitness, making them some of the most valuable and experienced doulas in the profession.

The CSM-Ozaukee doula program is one of the only hospital-based doula programs in the country, where the doulas are “on staff.” Once you register for the program, the doula on call will join you shortly after you are admitted.* The cost to the patient is $75.00.

HOW TO SECURE A DOULA FOR YOUR BIRTH?

  • Email Diane Nelson at diane.nelson2@ascension.org. Please provide your name, phone number and due date.
  • If there are doulas available for your due date then Diane will provide you with a code to enter into this website to pay your $75 fee.
  • Submitting your $75.00 fee holds your place in our Doula Program.

Please Note: We have a limited number of doulas so this program operates on a first come, first served basis.

*Laboring moms must have a negative COVID test result within 48 hours of admission to the hospital in order to be assisted by a doula. (A refund will be issued if needed.)

We also want to stress the importance of preparing to breastfeed by reading, taking a class and surrounding yourself with people who will support you in this endeavor. Breastfeeding, while natural, requires some knowledge and encouragement, at times, especially for new moms. Ascension's Breastfeeding Education Classes will help you and your partner with both!
