Increasing Functional Communication
Functional communication is the ability to communicate one’s wants and needs in a meaningful and effective way. Increasing a child’s functional communication may help reduce frustrations and challenging behaviors as well as provide opportunities to build social relationships. During this presentation, we will discuss how to determine what your child is trying to communicate with his/her behavior, tips and tricks for choosing an appropriate alternative method to communicate, as well as how to teach this new form of communication.
This presentation serves as an introduction to this topic. For more guidance on a child’s individualized communication needs please consider a referral for Applied Behavior Analysis or Speech/Language therapies.
