Coping with Pain in Labor

Pain is a part of the birthing process, right?

Honestly yes, it usually is. But it can be managed.

Whether you intend to explore medical pain coping options once you arrive at the hospital or you plan to experience an unmedicated birth, you will almost definitely get to experience pain for at least a little while. You will likely have to labor at home for many hours, labor in the car, labor while checking in to the hospital, and labor while settling into your space. But pain is relative, pain has purpose, pain can be managed, and pain is temporary.

Come explore some non-medical methods for helping you understand and cope with the discomforts of labor and birth so that you can more fully participate in this big event. Learn to be present and powerful while working toward the moment you meet your baby.

You will learn to use techniques such as:

  • Body positions
  • Movement
  • Partner exercises
  • Breathing
  • Visualization
  • and more.......

NOTE: If you are taking a From Belly to Birth Childbirth Preparation course, you will receive this content.

At Ascension Seton our top priority is the health and safety of our patients, providers, associates, and communities. As cases of COVID-19 increase across the U.S., Ascension continues to aggressively respond to this evolving situation to protect our associates and those who we are privileged to serve. We regularly treat patients with infectious diseases and our clinical teams are highly trained in infection prevention protocols. Ascension is closely monitoring COVID‐19 developments and working daily in partnership with our local and state health departments and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

After much discernment regarding the best course of action to limit possible exposure to this virus and in an abundance of caution, we have decided it is in the best interest of our associates and the community to temporarily postpone or reschedule to an online platform all upcoming hospital maternity tours and classes, until further notice. We will share relevant updates with you by email. In the meantime, please visit www.setonbaby.com to watch a video tour of our maternity unit.
