About

Rachel Brightwell, MD is a gynecologic oncologist at Ascension Saint Thomas in Nashville and Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Dr. Brightwell is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology and provides care for gynecologic cancers including ovarian, fallopian tube, uterine, vulvar and vaginal cancers, along with complex benign gynecologic conditions, including endometriosis.

Dr. Brightwell's areas of clinical interest include ovarian, uterine, cervical, vulvar and vaginal cancers, quality of life and palliative care. She has extensive training and experience in minimally invasive procedures, including advanced laparoscopy and robotics. Dr. Brightwell is a surgeon for all types of open abdominal procedures, including those for advanced cytoreductive ovarian cancer debulkings. These procedures aim to remove all visible diseases to increase susceptibility to chemotherapy and improve survival. Dr. Brightwell believes in treating not just a disease but the whole person, with great emphasis on maximizing the patient's quality of life and respecting their autonomy.

Dr. Brightwell enjoys spending her free time with her spouse and two beautiful children. An avid nature lover, Dr. Brightwell is enthusiastic about almost anything outdoors. She enjoys skiing (water and snow), hiking, sports, camping and stargazing. She also thoroughly enjoys exploring new culinary experiences.
