Ascension St Vincent Visitor Guidelines Update

Your Safety is Our Priority

Compassionate care means safe care

At Ascension St. Vincent, your health and safety are our priority. Our facilities — hospitals, emergency rooms, clinics and offices — continue to implement safety precautions to minimize the exposure risks related to coronavirus (COVID-19). From screening our associates and visitors to rigorous cleaning and disinfecting procedures, we are balancing care with caution.

Associate & Visitor Screenings

All our associates, providers and contracted employees are screened before they come to work, using screening tools designed to ensure they are healthy and symptom-free before entering our facilities or providing care. In addition, all visitors to our facilities are screened prior to entry, and visitor limitations remain in place at all our facilities.

Cleaning and Disinfecting Protocols

Our environmental services teams perform rigorous disinfecting measures at all our facilities. A comprehensive cleaning protocol has been developed which includes the cleaning and disinfecting of every horizontal and vertical surface in our facilities - including HVAC systems.

Hand Hygiene

Performing proper hand hygiene is one the most important things you can do to keep yourself safe and healthy. Associates and providers are required to perform rigorous hand hygiene measures as part of their work. Associates, providers, patients and visitors all have easy access to hand hygiene supplies - including soap, water and hand sanitizer stations throughout staff, patient and public areas of our facilities.

Masking & Social Distancing

Every associate, provider and contracted employee is required to wear the personal protective equipment (PPE) and masking appropriate for their job. This includes wearing a mask at all times (except while eating or alone in a private office) while in our facilities. In addition, all visitors to our Hospitals and ERs will be provided with a surgical mask. To promote and ensure social distancing, we have implemented separate intake and care areas, staggered appointment times and waiting room distancing measures. All visitors to our facilities are required to wear a mask.

Ascension St. Vincent complies with all safety and health standards established by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. This notice is intended to satisfy the requirements of Indiana Executive Order 20-50.

Visitor Guidelines

  6. Exceptions and additional guidance:
    • COVID-19 positive patients and Persons Under Investigation (PUI) for COVID-19 are not permitted visitors unless they meet the exemptions associated with the need of a Designated Support Person or End of Life Visitation. Please speak to your care team for additional details.
    • Patients who were COVID-19 positive but who have been cleared from isolation based on CDC guidance may have up to two (2) visitors at a time, if the room has adequate space to provide safe care and appropriate social distancing.
    • For patients in whom a support person has been determined to be essential to the care and safety of the patient (medically necessary), including patients with physical, intellectual and/or developmental disabilities and patients with cognitive impairments including dementia, two (2) people may be designated but only one may stay with the patient during non-visiting hours.
    • Laboring patients may have two (2) designated support persons (spouse, partner, sibling or other person chosen by the patient) or one designated support person and a doula may be present with the patient, if the room has adequate space to provide safe care and appropriate social distancing.
    • Pediatrics and NICU:
      1. Two (2) people may be designated as visitors, and both may be present together.
      2. Patients in the NICU may have both designated support persons present together, if there is adequate space to provide safe care and appropriate social distancing.
    • End of life/comfort care visitation will follow the Ascension St. Vincent End of Life Visitation Guidance, which patients can discuss with their care team.
    • Religious services may be provided to patients from the religious leader of their choice at any reasonable time, if it can be provided without disruption to care.
    • Special circumstances for individual patients may be determined at each location at the discretion of the care team.

These temporary visitor guidelines will ensure that our care teams are best equipped to provide compassionate, personalized care to all our patients. We will continue to monitor state and national recommendations and adjust guidelines appropriately.
