Cardiovascular disease is the #1 killer of women, killing more women than all cancers combined.

The Women's Cardiac Risk Clinic will identify and help you manage the risk factors. Our seven clinic locations provide the initial cardiac assessment, diagnostic testing (EKG), physical exam and the creation of an individualized action plan to modify risk factors including a Quit Smoking Program. With patient support and education in diet and exercise habits, the Ascension St. Vincent care teams have many resources for all types of heart disease.

Our Women’s Cardiac Risk Clinic focuses on heart care prevention by keeping high blood pressure and cholesterol under control and providing an integrated heart care plan. We will assess all of your risk factors, especially those associated with related women’s health conditions.

  • Diabetes
  • Family history of heart attack and stroke
  • Inactivity
  • Menopause
  • Mental stress and depression
  • Pregnancy complications (ie. preeclampsia)
  • Smoking

The clinic consists of two visits. At the first visit you will complete the patient profile and have fasting laboratory tests drawn.

Fasting laboratory tests consist of:

  • Total cholesterol
  • LDL cholesterol
  • HDL cholesterol
  • Triglycerides
  • Blood sugar
  • C-Reactive protein blood level

The second visit is your cardiac evaluation with a Women’s Cardiac Risk Clinic cardiologist. You will receive a 12-lead EKG, a blood pressure check and a full cardiac assessment. The cardiologist will review your tests, your risks and devise for you a personalized lifestyle modification plan to prevent cardiac problems in the future.

Your primary care physician will receive documentation of your visit, the results and the cardiologists’ recommendations, so that you can follow up with them for future care.

Talk to our Women’s Cardiac Risk Clinic doctors about how your numbers add up: Blood Pressure, Cholesterol, Blood Sugar and BMI (Body Mass Index). Your heart depends on it.
