When seconds count, the Ascension St. John Trauma Center stands ready to meet the needs of critically ill or injured patients, providing resuscitation, emergency surgery, diagnostic and medical treatment, and intensive care to trauma victims from across the region.

Since 1997, our level II trauma center and care team continues to improve care for patients with severe and multi-system injuries. This trauma center provides advanced trauma care to more than 1,800 individuals per year. Our Ascension St. John ERs care for more than 62,000 children and adults each year.

In Northeastern Oklahoma, the Ascension St. John Trauma Center is a Level II Trauma Center by the Verification Review Committee, an ad hoc committee of the Committee on Trauma of the American College of Surgeons.

The St. John Medical Center trauma team members are highly trained in providing care to injured patients, including certification in Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) and the Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC). Our multidisciplinary trauma team is equipped to provide 24-7 care for seriously ill or injured adults.

The critical intensive care on our surgical units supports the needs of our trauma center patients. The blood bank, surgical sub-specialists, nurses, social workers, spiritual care chaplains, case managers and behavioral health specialists are highly experienced in delivering high-quality trauma care.

Ascension is dedicated to continually improving trauma care through quality improvement programs, trauma prevention, and continuing medical education.

Critical Care Transport

Ascension St. John has an air ambulance pad for services to and from the rural communities. We also have a highly coordinated ground ambulance services. Ascension St. John accepts out of state transfer.

Our care teams receive the most updated trauma education, including the Rural Trauma Team Development Course (RTTDC), injury prevention programs, quality assurance, performance improvement initiatives, and trauma registry updates.
