What To Expect At Your Appointment
During your first appointment at the sleep center, you will meet with one of our board-certified sleep medicine doctors. We listen to understand your symptoms and health concerns. A thorough physical evaluation will determine if a sleep lab study is recommended.
Sleep Lab Testing
At Ascension Via Christi our care team performs a variety of sleep studies.
- Overnight sleep study (polysomnogram)
You are monitored overnight in one of our sleep labs. This test is used to diagnose a variety of sleep disorders and to determine if therapy is successful. - Maintenance of wakefulness test
This sleep study is a daytime test to monitor your breathing, brain activity and wakefulness during four separate 40 minute sessions. The test reports your ability to stay awake, especially in jobs that affect day and nighttime shifts (commercial drivers, pilots, swing shifts, etc.) - Multiple sleep latency test
The daytime sleepiness test monitors you during five separate napping opportunities and helps to determine how quickly you fall asleep and the stages of sleep. - Imaging and laboratory tests
Our care team may recommend specific medical imaging studies or blood tests.
Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) Service
At Ascension Via Christi, our care team provides full-service continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) and bi-level positive airway pressure (BiPAP) equipment, supplies, and masks to our patients. The equipment is of the highest quality and our registered respiratory therapists spend time customizing your particular device for your needs. The respiratory care team works closely with our sleep medicine doctors to monitor your CPAP therapy effectiveness.
The sleep disorder and respiratory care teams listen so we can improve your confidence, and comfort with the therapy.
