You deserve to get the medical care you need. Medications prescribed by your doctor are an important part of staying well, but if you cannot afford them, you run the risk of getting sicker.
The Hope Dispensary of the Southern Tier, a service of Lourdes Hospital, part of Ascension, may be able to help. This program helps individuals who have no prescription coverage and have a limited income. Patients at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL) will be provided with short-term and long-term medication assistance. We have staff available to assist with enrollment in Medicaid and other public programs, if needed. Our pharmacy care team can also provide information and assistance to patients, so you can obtain a primary care doctor, if needed.
Who is Eligible for Prescription Help?
Patients who are eligible for the Dispensary of Hope medication must be at or below 200% of Federal Poverty Guidelines and either lack insurance or are covered under a plan with no prescription coverage. Patients with Medicaid, Medicare, or VA coverage are not eligible for the Dispensary of Hope drugs. An access site is responsible for confirming a patient’s status as a qualified patient. Proof of income must be retained by the access site for three (3) years and a 30-day grace period is acceptable for patients without proof of income on their first point of contact with Access Site.

About the Hope Dispensary
The Dispensary of Hope is a charitable medication distributor. Through innovative stewardship of the pharmaceutical supply-chain, the Dispensary of Hope collects and distributes millions of dollars of pharmaceuticals annually to charitable clinics and pharmacies to dispense to low income, uninsured patients. Pharmacies and clinics utilize Dispensary of Hope medication to address community health concerns, as the cornerstone of avoidable hospital readmission programs and to reduce unnecessary emergency room use that often results from lack of access to affordable medication.
Medication is received from two main sources, including manufacturers and health systems. The Dispensary of Hope operates its “Fill the Box Fill the Need” campaign by which physician practices donate surplus sample brand medication. Over 1,000 practices across the United States donate using our “Fill the Box Fill the Need” Hope Boxes™. Combined, these manufactures and physicians have donated over $150 million AWP* in medication.
Medication is distributed domestically to access sites, which include federally qualified health centers, free clinics, charitable pharmacies, outpatient pharmacies, and state central access programs, all licensed to dispense medication. The typical recipients of Dispensary of Hope medication are patients between the ages of 18 and 65, with income at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines, and who are pharmaceutically uninsured.
Today, the work of the Dispensary of Hope is delivered by a national collaborative of health systems, drug manufacturers, and others dedicated to providing medication access to the most underserved communities. Each day, this collaborative is humbled by the stories heard from patients, the challenges they take on in seeking medical care and the trials they face in securing the medication that often keeps them alive.
*AWP (average wholesale price) is one publicly available metric that could be used to value prescription medication; however, other factors would likely need to be considered to determine the value for auditing or tax purposes.
The Lourdes Hope Dispensary one of many dispensaries in a national program that provides sustainable access to medicine for underinsured communities. To read more about the national program, visit the Dispensary of Hope website at dispensaryofhope.org.
