Orthopedic Expertise Closer to Home
At Providence Hospital our Orthopedics Joint Replacement Program gives you the expertise and tools to lead a healthier, more active life.
Orthopedic Blue Distinction Center
Age, injury and disease take its toll on our joints. Too often we become too sedentary and that leads to problems with our hips and knees. The Orthopedic program at Ascension Providence Hospital can get you back into action. For safe, effective care, we are a Blue Distinction-Plus Center for Spine Surgery as designated by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama.
Don’t live in pain, call us at 251-266-3586.
The personalized care our patients get at the Providence Hospital Orthopedic Special Care Unit comes from a team of orthopedic surgeons, nurses, therapists, dietitians, social workers and chaplains. As a Blue Distinction-Plus Center, we meet rigorous standards of care for inpatient spine surgery (discectomy, fusion and decompression procedures), as well as joint replacement surgery. Research confirms that the Blue Distinction Centers have fewer complications, lower readmission rates and fewer repeat operations than non-designated facilities.
Our orthopedic team specializes in treating hip and knee disorders, arthritis, and traumatic injuries and has expertise performing:
- Total knee and total hip replacement
- Complex total joint revision
- Less invasive/muscle sparing surgery of the lower extremity
- Anterior hip replacement
The spine specialists treat back pain and deformities of the spine such as scoliosis. They specialize in neck, and mid and lower back pain, as well as referred pain radiating down the legs and arms. Minimally invasive procedures are done when possible and include discectomy, fusion and decompression procedures.
Joints on the Move
We help patients prepare for and recover from a joint replacement procedure. Our two-hour Joints on the Move Program gives you the education you need for a more complete recovery. Once you are scheduled for hip or knee replacement surgery, you’ll get registered to attend this program with a family member or friend. Our clinical nurse educator, physical therapist and case manager teach the class.
