Gynecology and preventive health care

When you choose your OB-GYN, you get an entire care team that’s connected and understands you. From preventive gynecologic and pelvic health care to care during pregnancy, your doctor works with you to create a care plan that’s right for you. OB-GYNs help diagnose and treat many women’s health conditions including:

  • Irregular periods and pelvic pain
  • Perimenopause and menopause symptoms
  • Sexual health concerns
  • Uterine fibroids and endometriosis
  • Urinary tract infections (UTIs) and gynecologic infections

Your OB-GYN may also collaborate with other specialists supporting your primary care, heart care, pediatric care if you have a child, and more throughout your lifetime. OB-GYNs help you understand risk factors and provide or connect you to screenings for early detection of breast and gynecologic cancers. By working together, your care team delivers ongoing care and treatment options for your specific needs.

Gynecologic surgery

If surgery is something you are considering or is recommended as part of your care plan, your doctor will talk through options and risks. Some gynecologists perform gynecologic surgery. Gynecologic surgery is a treatment option for many conditions affecting the uterus, ovaries, cervix, fallopian tubes and vagina. Whenever possible, your surgeon will recommend minimally-invasive techniques and robotic surgery. Compared with traditional surgery, minimally invasive techniques may mean smaller incisions, less pain, a lower risk of complications and help shorten your recovery. If your surgery may impact your ability to have children, such as if hysterectomy is recommended as part of your care, you and your doctor will discuss all of your options and what they mean for you. Together we'll develop a care plan that is right for you.

Maternity care for you and your baby

Your OB-GYN provides fertility evaluations, family planning consultations, pregnancy testing and prenatal care based on your needs. And your care team is here to answer your questions and support you at every step, through labor, delivery and beyond. By understanding your preferences and working with you, our goal is to help create a memorable birth experience for you and your family. Maternity care and services include:

Not every mom-to-be needs more advanced care during pregnancy, but if your pregnancy is high risk, experienced specialists and care teams collaborate to deliver the right care for you at the right time. This includes maternal-fetal medicine (MFM) specialists and other doctors with advanced training to care for complex pregnancies. With onsite services, such as neonatal intensive care units (NICU), we are ready for anything.

Get a second opinion from an OB-GYN

Get the confidence and peace of mind that your doctor and care plan are right for you. It's easy to get a second opinion at Ascension sites of care. We can review your medical records and healthcare history to answer your questions and discuss options. Talk with one of our doctors about a personalized care plan.

When you are facing a new diagnosis or deciding on a care plan, there’s a lot to think about. Our OB-GYNs can provide a second opinion, based on our experience and as part of an integrated national network of care.

Before your appointment, check with your insurance company to find out if a second opinion is covered. We can request your medical records from your doctor on your behalf, so that they can be shared with your care team before your arrival.

Financial assistance and support is available

We can connect you with resources and programs that may be able to help you and your family with options for financial assistance. Our team is here to listen to your concerns and work with you to help find options that meet your needs. Talk with our financial assistant as a first step, if you have questions.
