Breastfeeding support at Ascension St. John

You may choose to attend breastfeeding classes before your baby is born. Peer counselors working in select OB clinics provide you with guidance and support during this special time. After your baby’s born, our nurses make you feel comfortable and confident with breastfeeding before going home. There is no special diet you must follow to breastfeed.

After the birth of your baby, internationally board certified lactation consultants are available to support you 7 days a week and most nights. Our nurses also have extensive experience in breastfeeding support.

If your baby needs extra care, we are ready to help. Lactation consultants in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) are available 6 days a week. We are committed to providing all of the resources you’ll need to care for your family.
