Our stroke centers offer 24/7 emergency stroke care

If you have symptoms of a stroke, it’s important to get medical care immediately. Ascension Michigan has four Comprehensive Stroke Centers certified by the Joint Commission that are ready to care for your medical needs. Our vascular neurologists specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of stroke and stroke-like symptoms. We have developed a system to rapidly diagnose and treat patients admitted to the emergency department with stroke symptoms. Using brain imaging and advanced stroke assessments, we deliver prompt care and clot-dissolving medication if needed.

In Michigan, the Joint Commission has certified four Ascension Comprehensive Stroke Centers:

  • Ascension St. Mary's Hospital, Saginaw
  • Ascension St. John Hospital, Detroit
  • Ascension Providence Hospital, Novi
  • Ascension Borgess Hospital, Kalamazoo

In addition to our Comprehensive Stroke Centers, we also have hospitals that have gotten Primary Stroke Center Certifications by the Joint Commission. This certification recognizes that the Ascension stroke care teams at these facilities provide advanced stroke care that meets the unique and specialized needs of stroke patients in an effort to achieve long-term success in improving outcomes.

Preventing stroke with vascular neurology treatments

Our stroke care teams deliver timely stroke treatments for hemorrhagic and ischemic stroke and transient stroke attack (TIA). At our stroke centers, we deliver advanced brain imaging to help improve the diagnosis of stroke when minutes count. We provide vascular neurology treatments for brain bleeds. Our doctors provide neuroendovascular interventions to treat:

  • Arteriovenous malformation (AVM)
  • Brain aneurysm
  • Carotid artery blockage
  • Epilepsy and seizure
