We are certified as a Comprehensive Stroke Center by the Joint Commission — an independent accrediting organization that is the nation’s predominant standards-setting and accrediting body in healthcare. This recognition reflects our expert care, advanced capabilities and positive stroke recovery outcomes.

Additionally, we are a winner of the Get With the Guidelines Gold Plus Target Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus award by the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association.

Experience and Advanced Interventions

The neuroscience care team at Ascension Via Christi shares a single goal: Provide high quality, coordinated stroke care from the moment the patient enters the emergency room through recovery and rehabilitation. Our multidisciplinary team has specialized training to provide the highest quality stroke care and includes:

Each member is specially trained and has a specific responsibility to respond quickly and completely to the needs of a stroke patient.

At St. Francis, the 20-bed neurocritical care unit is overseen by neurocritical care fellowship trained physicians. The team provides in-house evaluation and treatment for acute stroke, advanced neuro imaging, and interventional acute stroke care.

As part of our commitment to improve stroke care , we also participate in stroke clinical trials.

Patient-centered stroke care and family support is the focus of our inpatient rehabilitation locations at Ascension Via Christi Rehabilitation Hospital and Ascension Via Christi St. Teresa. Our experienced nurses and therapists provide compassionate, personalized care for your needs. The post-acute rehabilitation features private rooms and specialty equipment to help patients continually set and meet new rehabilitation goals.

Ascension Via Christi Hospital's Emergency Department Stroke team has been recognized as the American Heart Association / American Stroke Association's Get with the Guidelines Stroke Silver Plus Quality Achievement Award. The quality measures developed to reduce the time between the patient’s arrival at the hospital and treatment with the clot-buster tissue plasminogen activator, or tPA, the only drug approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to treat ischemic stroke.
