Ascension’s interventional radiologists specialize in minimally invasive surgical procedures to remove blockages, fibroids, and restore blood flow.
About Interventional Radiology
Can I go directly to an interventional radiologist? Most patients will interact with an interventional radiologist when they are having a minimally invasive surgical procedure. Some of these doctors are hospital-based while others also have a medical office for patient appointments.
They treat a variety of conditions like uterine fibroids, spider veins, and varicose veins by placing a port before dialysis or chemotherapy. They also work as part of the surgical team. Some have additional expertise in heart care. The interventional cardiologists at our Heart and Vascular Centers perform cardiac catheterization, angioplasty and put in the carotid artery and coronary stents. The interventional oncologists work with the cancer care doctors and perform chemoembolization treatments to target cancer cells in organs like the liver. They also work with thoracic surgeons when minimally invasive lung procedures are needed.
