Heart disease education and resources

Our chest pain center coordinators help answer your questions and educate you on heart disease. Whether you need early intervention or help understanding a recent diagnosis, we are here to support you in your heart care.

Knowing the signs of a heart attack and where to go to get emergency care can be life-saving information. We help educate you on how to identify heart attack symptoms and what to do if you think you are having a heart attack.

Cardiac rehabilitation

Rehabilitation is an important part of your heart care after having a heart attack, heart failure or heart surgery. The Cardiac Rehabilitation program provides a comprehensive range of services to help you recover.

Our program, certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation, focuses on education and exercise. A team of cardiac nurses and exercise psychologists are here to support you during your recovery.

Cardiac rehabilitation: Phase 2

Phase 2 is an outpatient, hospital-based program. Most patients have 36 visits (two or three times a week). During your visit, you will engage in a monitored program of exercise therapy along with health education. Ask your heart doctor if phase 2 of cardiac rehab is right for you.

What to expect

Exercise therapy is conducted two or three times a week by a cardiac nurse or an exercise psychologist. Exercise is prescribed according to your health and physical ability. During your exercise, we will carefully monitor your blood pressure, heart rate, heart rhythm, and overall response to exercise.

In addition to your exercise program, you can attend weekly health education sessions, which focus on helping you make lifestyle changes. A variety of topics including stress management and diet modifications are included.

Who can be part of it?

Patients who have had a heart attack, heart surgery, coronary stenting, heart or heart-lung transplant, or who have stable angina or have been diagnosed with heart failure qualify for Phase 2 Cardiac Rehab. Most insurance carriers cover cardiac rehab, but a co-pay might be charged.
