Vein Care Solutions

Vein care

Unsightly varicose and spider veins in women and men are treatable with minimally invasive therapies at our Vein Care Center. We are conveniently located on the first floor of the Women's Center. Varicose veins can cause rashes, burning sensations or a feeling of heaviness in the legs. In serious conditions, they can lead to phlebitis, inflammation of the veins, or blood clots and skin ulcers. Varicose veins can also lower self-esteem and may make you feel self-conscious.

When bulging leg veins are uncomfortable, especially at night, or skin discoloration affects your self-image, our vascular health specialists have solutions that are right for you.

Frequently asked questions

What are varicose veins?
Varicose veins are enlarged, twisted veins. They can happen anywhere in the body. But they are more common in the legs.

What causes varicose veins?
When veins are working properly, they return blood to the heart for reoxygenation. When their valves fail, leak or are damaged, some of the blood flows in a backward direction instead of toward the heart where is may collect in a pool. This can cause the veins to become distended, and that’s when you can get symptoms such as pain, burning, itching, throbbing and fatigue.

When should I be concerned about my varicose veins?
Over time, severe varicose veins may lead to long-term mild swelling. That can result in more serious skin and tissue problems. These include ulcers and nonhealing sores. The symptoms of varicose veins may look like other health problems. Always talk with your healthcare provider for a diagnosis.

What happens if varicose veins go untreated?
Varicose veins may also limit your ability to work or your capacity for leisure activities. Left untreated, varicose veins may cause serious health issues such as venous leg ulcers, skin discolorations or blood clots.

What are spider veins?
Spider veins are the ones you see closer to the skin’s surface that may appear small, threadlike and wispy. They may appear red or purple in color; however, reticular veins or “feeder” veins may appear bluish-green and can have a marbled appearance. Spider veins and reticular veins are generally considered a cosmetic condition and usually not covered by insurance.

What are facial veins?
Facial spider veins range in size from small, wispy red and purple veins to larger blue-green veins. The small veins are commonly seen on the nose, cheeks and chin. The larger veins may be found in the temple area, around the eyes and along the jaw line. These veins typically do not cause pain and are considered cosmetic.

What is rosacea?
Rosacea begins as flushing and redness on the face, across the cheeks, nose, and forehead but can also affect the neck and chest. Other characteristics of rosacea may be dilation of the superficial blood vessels on the face with small red bumps.
