St. Vincent's Structural Heart Disease
The heart has four chambers, and when a heart valve fails, this muscle cannot move the blood to where it needs to go. Every person has different needs. That is why we create a personalized care plan. We take the time to listen and understand all aspects of your health. Having a comprehensive team, enables our patients to get the care you need, when and where you need it. For more information, call 205-939-7878.
When a valve is damaged, we call it structural heart disease. Our heart team provides advanced procedures, including:
- Atrial septal defect closure
- Aortic and mitral valve valvuloplasty
- Left atrial appendage (LAA) closure
- Paravalvular periprosthetic
- Regurgitation closures
- Transcatheter valve-in-valve implantation for degenerated bioprosthetic aortic valves
- Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR)
We also treat teens and adults who have a hole in their heart (called patent foramen ovale). Nearly 25 percent are born with this defect, and for many, it causes no problems; however, for some, surgery is needed to repair the hole.
Well-rounded Heart Care
There are other heart conditions besides heart valve damage that can increase the risk of a heart attack.
- High blood pressure
- Coronary heart blockages
- Atrial fibrillation
