Low-dose CT scan Screens for Lung Cancer
The Cancer Center at Providence Hospital provides lung cancer screening to enhance early detection and cure rates.
Lung Cancer Screening at Providence
Each year, more Americans die from lung cancer than from colon, breast and prostate cancers combined. At Providence Hospital, our lung cancer screening program provides early detection for heavy, long-term smokers most at risk. The screening includes a low-dose CT scan, proven to be more effective in detecting lung cancer less than 10 mm in size than standard chest X-ray. The CT scan is painless and non-invasive.
Lung cancer screening is recommended for those older than age 55 and with a history of heavy smoking. Some health insurance plans cover the cost of the screening if referred by a doctor, otherwise the cost is $99 when self-referred. To schedule an appointment, call 251-639-2043.
In the U.S., lung cancer is the most common cancer to cause death in both men and women. Our lung screening program helps us detect these cancers at an earlier stage when more easily treated to achieve better outcomes. The Cancer Center at Providence Hospital continues to offer the best screening tools to our community.
