Treatment and therapies for metastatic liver cancer

At Ascension Wisconsin, our care teams specializing in colon, rectal and liver cancer, provide novel treatments, such as:

  • Chemotherapy to destroy or shrink the tumor
  • Surgical tumor removal
  • Non-surgical ablation

Surgery - Our surgeons remove primary colon cancer, primary rectal cancer and liver metastases. When multiple tumors are in the lobes or outside the liver, we suggest consultations to determine if you are a candidate for surgery. Our surgical team delivers advanced care options for your needs.

Non-surgical therapies - Percutaneous ablation uses heat to destroy small tumors or cancerous cells. It is a viable treatment option when abdominal surgery is not recommended.

Radiation therapy - Radiotherapy may help control the spread of the disease by targeting the cancer cells in the liver. Other therapies may include transarterial radioembolization (TARE), which is a type of internal radiation therapy.
