Share a part of you…Volunteer!

Thank you for considering Ascension St. Michael’s Hospital for your volunteer opportunity. We welcome our volunteers and know that your involvement makes us successful. Here are a few things you should consider before filling out your application:

  1. Bring your energy and enthusiasm. Volunteering offers the opportunity to learn and contribute in a professional, care-giving organization. Your smile and positive attitude will help you get the most out of your volunteer experience.
  2. The hospital volunteer program cannot accommodate volunteers who need to accumulate just a few hours of volunteer time toward a school or community-service requirement.
  3. Be certain that you are ready to make the minimum commitment to be a volunteer. An assignment is for one 2-4 hour shift each week. The length of your shift depends on the assignment.
  4. Volunteers at the hospital are limited to certain areas and responsibilities. Volunteers are asked to be flexible and accepting of different assignments according to the needs and requirements of the patients, staff and Volunteer Services Department. We will accommodate preferences if possible.

College Students and High School Students

The minimum age requirement to volunteer is 16.

  • High School students new to our hospital volunteer program are accepted into the volunteer program only in the spring for the summer program. Applications for the summer program are accepted February 1 through April 30 each year. After completion of one summer, they may be invited to apply for a volunteer opportunity during the school year.
    • Parental/guardian permission forms are required before application can be completed.
    • Complete requested referrals.
  • College students are accepted year round. If you are applying in the spring and will not be able to volunteer during the summer, please ask about the timing of your application.
    • School Year Program: September-December and/or January-May. Evaluate your current obligations at home, school and/or work, and discuss this additional time commitment with your professor/employer. Patients and staff will be counting on you! It is important that volunteers be dependable and treat their assignments seriously.
