The Congestive Heart Failure Clinic at Ascension Providence opened in 2001 as a physician-directed and nurse-managed clinic providing comprehensive care for patients with the diagnosis of heart failure. The staff work with the physician to provide long-term outpatient heart failure management.
Experienced cardiovascular nurses are certified in specialized heart failure care by the AAHFN-American Association of Heart Failure Nurses. The nurses also have advanced cardiac life support certification. Infusion therapy, medication assistance, and in-depth teaching about the disease process and lifestyle are just a few of the services available to the CHF Clinic patient.
Understanding Congestive Heart Failure
Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) is a condition in which the heart’s function as a pump is inadequate to deliver oxygen rich blood to the body. Congestive heart failure can be caused by:
- Diseases that weaken the heart muscle
- Diseases that cause stiffening of the heart muscles
- Diseases that increase oxygen demand by the body tissue beyond the capability of the heart to deliver adequate oxygen-rich blood
For the patient to be enrolled in the clinic, a referral must be made by the patient’s physician. Contact the clinic by calling 254-751-4284.
