Visiting Hours

General

Visiting hours at Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital are from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

Critical Care

Visiting Hours for Critical Care as follows:

  • 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
  • 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
  • 8:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.

Each patient has the right (subject to his or her consent, which can be withdrawn at any time) to receive the visitors whom he or she designates, including but not limited to a spouse, a domestic partner (including a same–sex domestic partner), a family member or friend. Patients have a right to designate a support person who is at the hospital assisting the patient during their stay. This designee may exercise the patient's visitation rights on the patient's behalf if the patient is unable to do so.

Critical care welcomes the presence of the patient's primary support person, at any time. The primary support person presence is especially important during admission, patient education, discharge planning, clinical rounding, and decisions regarding the plan of care. In the interest of the patient's care and need for rest other visitors may come during the hours of 8:00-11:00 a.m., 3:00-6:00 p.m. and 8:00-10:00 p.m. The number of visitors are limited to two (2) at a time and must be at least 12 years old and accompanied by an adult.

Inpatients are advised of hospital visitation policies through receipt of the patient handbook and on admission to Critical Care by receipt of Visitation Guidelines.

The Critical care reserves the right to determine any situation where it is necessary to limit visitation. These restrictions may include but not limited to:

  • Disruptive, threatening or violent behavior of any kind. Visitors who are disruptive to patients, staff or other visitors, or interfere with patient care will be asked to stop behavior and escorted from the premises
  • Patient need for rest or privacy.
  • Court order limiting or restraining contact.
  • During invasive treatments/procedures.
  • The unit reserves the right to require visitors to wear appropriate personal protective equipment such as gowns, gloves, and masks as appropriate.
  • Behavioral health patients
General Information
  • Visitors much remain in the patient rooms when visiting
  • In order to maintain a quiet environment, cell phones should be placed on silent or vibrate. If phone calls need to be made, please stay in the patient's room
  • Most of the critical care patients are sedated, so for privacy we ask that no cameras, video recording be taken
  • fresh flowers and plants are not permitted in critical care
  • Outside food and beverages are not permitted
  • Shoes must be worn at all times while visiting in the unit.

At Saint Thomas Health, the safety of our patients has always been an important priority. Our employees respect the importance of patient safety and are committed to maintaining a high standard for safety.

Cell Phone Usage

Cellular telephones may be used in public areas of the hospital, but should not be used within three feet of any patient care equipment or in the following patient care areas:

  • Special Care
  • Surgery
  • PODS/Critical Care
  • Cath Lab
  • Emergency Department
  • Medical Imaging

Emergency Drills

For the safety of our patients, visitors and staff, fire drills are performed regularly. Visitors may be asked to remain in a specific area for a short time until the drill is completed. These activities ensure that our staff responds quickly and appropriately should a real emergency occur.

Evacuation routes are posted in each room for those who can move around on their own. Caregivers will provide assistance for those who have special needs.

Security Escorts

Security Officers are available at each hospital to escort visitors, as necessary, to and from the parking garages.

Patient Safety Tips

Suggestions from your healthcare professionals:

  • Openly share your health history with your caregiver. This includes the medication you take, any operations you've had, or any allergies you may have. The more your caregiver knows, the more successful your care plan and recovery will be.
  • Don't recognize a medication? Ask the caregiver to check it before you accept it.
  • Don't understand something about your care? If you have questions or concerns about your condition or treatment options, please be sure to ask.
  • Help reduce the risk of infection. Remind caregivers to wash their hands before they care for you. Wash your own hands and keep any wounds clean and dry.
  • Know how to care for yourself at home. Make sure your partner in care learns what to do, too.

Internet Access

Patients and guests can access the Internet through Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital's high-speed wireless network, which is available from anywhere in Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital.

System Requirements

To access our wireless network, you will need:

  • Your own laptop, PDA or other wireless-enabled device with a standard Internet browser and WI-FI 802.11 b/g capability.
  • A proper operating system (Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Mac, Linux)

Note: A card that displays WI-FI approval should perform well. Installation requirements for specific cards vary by manufacturer. Please follow the manufacturer's recommendations when installing your card. Default settings for most cards are set to accept broadcast SSID (Service Set Identifier).

Getting Started

  • Follow the manufacturer's instructions to install and use your internal/external wireless network card.
  • Enable your wireless adapter.
  • Select "Saint Thomas Guest" (case sensitive) as the SSID or network name.
  • No WEP key is used. Turn encryption type to "off" or "disabled."
  • Make sure the channel is set to auto.
  • Make sure 802.1X authentications are set to "off" or "auto."
  • Make sure the data rate is set to "auto."
  • Make sure that the DHCP for your wireless adapter is on.
  • Open your Web browser.
  • Visit any website. You will be redirected to the Saint Thomas Health wireless login page.
  • You will receive a warning about the website's security. Click accept, OK, continue, etc. to proceed.
  • You will be asked to read and accept our Internet Use Policy.
  • Click the check box to accept the policy and then click on the "log in" button.

Patients and guests are responsible for technical support of their own personal wireless devices.
