Ascension St. John is dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of our patients.

We regularly review quality of care, patient safety and patient satisfaction data to ensure we are meeting nationally recognized standards. We also continually focus on quality measures that impact patient outcomes. As part of an integrated system, our hospitals and clinics are designed to treat patients in the care setting most appropriate to their condition. Ascension St. John Medical Center Cancer Program Accredited by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons

The Commission on Cancer, a quality program of the American College of Surgeons has granted Three-Year Accreditation to the cancer program at Ascension St. John Medical Center. To earn voluntary CoC accreditation, a cancer program must meet 34 CoC quality care standards, be evaluated every three years through a survey process, and maintain levels of excellence in the delivery of comprehensive patient-centered care.

Because it is a CoC-accredited cancer center, Ascension St. John Medical Center takes a multidisciplinary approach to treating cancer as a complex group of diseases that requires consultation among surgeons, medical and radiation oncologists, diagnostic radiologists, pathologists, and other cancer specialists. This multidisciplinary partnership results in improved patient care.

Ascension St. John Medical Center receives the American College of Cardiology’s NCDR Chest Pain ̶ MI Registry Gold Performance Achievement Award

Ascension St. John Medical Center has received the American College of Cardiology’s NCDR Chest Pain ̶ MI Registry Gold Performance Achievement Award for 2020. Ascension St. John is one of only 60 hospitals nationwide to receive the honor. The award recognizes Ascension St. John’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of care for heart attack patients and signifies that Ascension St. John has reached an aggressive goal of treating these patients to standard levels of care as outlined by the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association clinical guidelines and recommendations.

Ascension St. John Accredited a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence by the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program

Ascension St. John was named Tulsa’s only Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program-accredited center. This recognition certifies that the highest standards of quality and safety are being met.

Ascension St. John Breast Center Designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology

A Breast Imaging Center of Excellence Center recognizes accreditation in mammography, breast ultrasound, stereotactic breast biopsy and breast MRI. Ascension St. John Medical Center was the first in Northeastern Oklahoma to earn this prestigious distinction.

Ascension St. John Medical Center Trauma Center Verified as a Level II Trauma Center by the Committee on Trauma of the American College of Surgeons

This achievement recognizes the trauma program’s dedication to providing optimal care for injured patients. Ours is the only American College of Surgeons-verified trauma program in northeastern Oklahoma.

Ascension St. John Transplant Center Receives Five-Star Program Rating by the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients

The Ascension St. John Transplant Center is the recipient of the only five-star program rating in Oklahoma by the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients (SRTR), the highest possible rating. SRTR, a national resource for organ transplantation analysis and data, assesses the outcomes of centers that perform liver, heart, lung, kidney and kidney-pancreas transplants. SRTR evaluates patients who live with a functioning transplanted organ one year after the transplant, then assigns a score. The Ascension St. John Transplant Center is a regional kidney transplant program serving patients in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kansas and Missouri.

Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade Award

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program exclusively based on hospital prevention of medical errors, infections and injuries.

Ascension St. John Medical Center Receives CORE Certification from the International Geriatric Fracture Society

Ascension St. John Medical Center is the only facility in Oklahoma to be recognized with CORE certification by the International Geriatric Fracture Society. The certification recognizes organizations who decrease variability of care, increase quality and improve patient outcomes in geriatric fracture care.

The award recognizes hospitals that are creating a culture of excellence in perinatal care for Oklahoma mothers and newborns based on participation in and outcomes of quality improvement initiatives available to all birthing hospitals.

Ascension St. John Medical Center has been recognized as an Age-Friendly Health System by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement. The recognition celebrates commitment to the care of older adults that is guided by evidence-based practices, causes no harms and is consistent with what matters to the older adult and their family.

Ascension St. John Medical Center named a Certified Transcatheter Valve Center by the American College of Cardiology

Ascension St. John Medical has been named Oklahoma’s first certified Transcatheter Valve Center by the American College of Cardiology. The certification recognizes our team’s ongoing commitment to reduce the prevalence of heart disease among our patients.

Sleep Disorder Center Earns Excellence in Healthcare Award from Professional Research Consultants

The Sleep Disorder Center at Ascension St. John Medical Center earned a 5-star patient satisfaction award (Top 10% nationally) from healthcare market research firm Professional Research Consultants for 2020-21.

Ascension St John Jane Phillips Named a Top 20 Rural Community Hospital

Ascension St. John Jane Phillips was recognized as one of the Top 20 Rural Community Hospitals in the country by the National Rural Health Association (NRHA). In addition, NRHA announced the 20 highest-ranked rural prospective payment hospitals in the country based on an evaluation by the Chartis Center for Rural Health using ivantage health Analytics Hospital Strength index.

The determining factors for the top 20 rural community hospitals were based on eight indices: inpatient market share, outpatient market share, quality, outcomes, patient perspective, cost, charge, and financial stability. Ascension St. John Jane Phillips is one of only two hospitals in Oklahoma to achieve this recognition by the NRHA as Top 20 Rural Hospitals.

Founded in 1985, the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR) is a multidisciplinary organization dedicated to the mission of reducing morbidity, mortality and disability from cardiovascular and pulmonary disease through education, prevention, rehabilitation, research and disease management. Central to the core mission is improving the quality of life for patients and their families.

Ascension St. John Jane Phillips Receives Mission: Lifeline Awards

Ascension St. John Jane Phillips was recognized as a recipient of Mission: Lifeline® Gold-Plus Receiving Award and the Mission: Lifeline® NSTEMI Gold Quality Achievement Award by the American Heart Association. Jane Phillips earned the awards by meeting specific criteria and standards of performance for quick and appropriate treatment through emergency procedures to re-establish blood flow to blocked arteries in heart attack patients coming into the hospital, directly or by transfer from another facility.

The American Diabetes Associates requires meeting 10 comprehensive performance standards to maintain recognition: internal structure, external input, access, indicators, instructional staff, curriculum, individualization, ongoing support, patient progress and quality improvement.

Ascension St. John Jane Phillips received a 5-star award (Top 10% Nationally) from healthcare market research firm Professional Research Consultants for outpatient surgery services for 2019-20. The award recognizes this department’s overall quality of care.

Ascension St. John Jane Phillips Receives Platinum Recognition for Workplace Partnership for Life

The Workplace Partnership for Life is a national initiative that unites the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the organ donation community with workplaces throughout the nation to spread the word about the importance of donation.

Partners include local, regional, and national companies, associations, unions, and academic, volunteer, philanthropic, and community-focused organizations of all kinds. Their shared goal is promoting a "donation-friendly America" by fostering organ donation education and creating opportunities for individuals to sign up to save lives.

Ascension St. John Jane Phillips and more than 13,000 businesses have joined as "workplace partners." They have helped register more than one million people in the United States.

Ascension St. John Broken Arrow was recently awarded a five-star rating, the highest achievement level possible, from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Of the more than 4,500 hospitals evaluated nationwide by CMS, only 407 received a five-star rating. The hospital rating summarizes a variety of measures across seven areas of quality – including safety of care, effectiveness of care, and patient experience – into a single star rating for each hospital.

TMF Hospital Quality Improvement Silver Award

Ascension St. John Broken Arrow received a TMF Hospital Quality Improvement Silver Award. TMF is the Texas Medical Foundation, a CMS quality improvement organization. This award recognizes hospitals in Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas. Out of 557 hospitals only 50 hospitals received the Silver Award.

Ascension St. John Broken Arrow has been recognized as a High Performing Hospital for 2019-2020 by U.S. News & World Report. St. John Broken Arrow earned a “High Performing” rating in Hip and Knee Replacements, in recognition of care that was significantly better than the national average, as measured by factors such as patient outcomes. “High Performing” is the highest rating U.S. News awards for hip and knee replacement care.

For a fourth year in a row, Ascension St. John Owasso has been named to the 2020 IBM Watson Health 100 Top Hospitals list. Theis honor recognizes Ascension St. John Owasso as one of the top performing hospitals in the nation for 2020. IBM Watson Health identified the top hospitals from a rigorous evaluation of 3,134 short-term, acute care, non-federal hospitals in the U.S. The annual list recognizes excellence in clinical outcomes, operational efficiency, patient experience and financial health. These include survival rates, patient complications, healthcare-associated infections, 30-day mortality, and 30-day hospital-wide readmission rates, length of stay, throughput in emergency rooms, inpatient expenses, profitability, and ratings from patients. IBM Watson Health established the list to help identify best practices that may help other healthcare organizations achieve consistent, balanced, and sustainable high performance.
