Community Health Needs Assessment

In accordance with the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (Affordable Care Act), enacted March 23, 2010, Ascension St. Joseph Hospital will continue to respond to the health needs of our community. The Affordable Care Act requires nonprofit, tax-exempt hospitals to assess the healthcare needs of their communities and to adopt an implementation strategy to address the needs identified every three-years. The purpose of the Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) is to understand the health needs and priorities of those who live and work in the communities served by Ascension St. Joseph Hospital, with the goal of addressing those needs through the development of an implementation strategy.

The 2019 CHNA has identified two health focus areas of alignment for Iosco County but also the broader-region. These focus areas are based on the magnitude of the issues affecting the community and region, input from community members and key stakeholders, including persons with expertise in public health, as well as trending of the most current data. Priority Areas for Iosco County include:

  1. Obesity-Related Adverse Health Conditions
  2. Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)

In addition to the priority areas for Iosco County identified in the 2019 CHNA report, Ascension St. Joseph Hospital will continue to address national health system priorities including:

  1. Access to Healthcare
  2. Human Trafficking
