Ascension River District Hospital Diabetes Education
Ascension River District Hospital provides education to help you manage your diabetes and improve your quality of life.
To help you manage your diabetes, our team of specialists work with your primary care physician to evaluate your needs and establish a plan of care. Your personalized treatment plan may include changes in meal planning and exercise, as well as medications to control blood sugar.
Furthering our mission to help you, Ascension River District Hospital offers Diabetes Self-Management Education (DSME)* classes. During these classes, you will learn about many different topics related to diabetes, including:
- What is diabetes
- Coping with diabetes
- Nutrition information (carbohydrate counting, label reading and eating out)
- Blood sugar monitoring
- Management of high/low blood sugar
- Physical activity
- Foot care and prevention of complications
Available in individual and group sessions, these classes will help you develop healthy habits meant to improve blood sugar control and quality of life.
