Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast will host a free community-education seminar on the benefits of Tai Chi and Pilates.

Guest speakers, Barbara Rezmer, Tai Chi Instructor and Olga Markulin, Pilates Instructor, will lead attendees in a free demonstration of various poses and exercises.

Leslie Moskal, Doctor of Physical Therapy, will be explaining the benefits of Tai Chi and Pilates and how it relates to reduction of fall risk and improved physical functioning. Tai Chi is a low impact Chinese martial art of flowing movements and postures that improves balance, relaxation, flexibility and mental focus while Pilates focuses on trying to relax muscles which are tense and provide strengthening of the numerous muscles of the body. Both exercise forms improve cardiovascular functions while reducing pain and fall risk.

Mary Kay Cattaneo, Director of Rehabilitation Services for Sacred Heart Hospital, will share information on the Bodies in Balance Fall Prevention Program available through Sacred Heart and our Wellness Program offering aquatic, strengthening and balance classes offered at Sacred Heart Rehabilitation at Somerby Assisted Living in Santa Rosa Beach.
