-Behavior change principles to help you stay on track with your new lifestyle including goal setting and problem solving.

Who can participate in this program?
-Anyone over the age of 18
-Must have a body mass index of 24 or above
-Must have been identified as having pre-diabetes
What is the format for the program?
The program utilizes group discussion. A trained group leader will guide a group of participants through discussion regarding a new education topic each session. Your input in the discussion is greatly appreciated. You will meet with the same participants each session.
How big are the groups? around 10-15 people in size.
Will I be weighed each session?
Yes, but your weight will always be private between you and the group leader.
Will I be asked to do “homework” during this program?
There will be some activities to do on your own between sessions to put into practice the concepts you are discussing during the group sessions. Although you are not being “graded” on your completion of these activities, they are for your benefit. The more you put into the program, the more you will get out of it.
How long are the meetings?
Meetings will last an hour. We want to be considerate of your time and will make every effort to start on time and end on time.
What is the length of the commitment to this program I would need to make?
The program consists of approximately 22 meetings spread out over 12 months.
The first 2 months, meetings will take place weekly, and then will begin to taper off over the next 10 months.
We know life happens and you may miss a meeting or two, but the research shows that you need to be able to attend a minimum of 9 sessions in the first 6 months and 4 sessions over the second 6 months for the program to be effective. If you need to miss a session, talk to your group leader about possible arrangements to make up the content.
