Grant Application Process

St. Michael’s Foundation accepts grant applications six times a year to support programs and services that enhance the quality of health care services for the patients and families served by Ascension St. Michael’s Hospital, Ascension Medical Group, Ministry Dental Center, Ascension Behavioral Health and Ascension Health at Home.  Capital grants for departments within Ascension St. Michael’s Hospital, Ascension Medical Group, Ministry Dental Center, Ascension Behavioral Health and Ascension Health at Home are also considered during these grant cycles.

Each grant application will be reviewed by St. Michael’s Foundation Allocations Committee and ratified by St. Michael’s Foundation Board of Directors.  Grant applications which seek funding for purchases, supplies or services that directly impact Ascension St. Michael’s Hospital, Ascension Medical Group, Ministry Dental Center, Ascension Behavioral Health and Ascension Health at Home will initially be reviewed by St. Michael’s Hospital Administration prior to the Allocations Committee’s consideration.  Administration has the right to withdraw the application.

Grant Eligibility

Any department or program within Ascension St. Michael’s Hospital, Ascension Medical Group, Ministry Dental Center, Ascension Behavioral Health and Ascension Heath at Home is eligible to apply.

External organizations may also be considered for funding; however, all external organizations must show a direct relationship between their program or service and how it will enhance the health care of the patients and families served by Ascension St. Michael’s Hospital, Ascension Medical Group, Ministry Dental Center, Ascension Behavioral Health and/or Ascension Health at Home.

Grant Criteria

Funded projects will:

  • Support the Mission of St. Michael’s Foundation
  • Strengthen and enhance the quality of health care services for the patients and families served by Ascension St. Michael’s Hospital, Ascension Medical Group, Ministry Dental Center, Ascension Behavioral Health and/or Ascension Health at Home
  • Use innovative approaches to address health care issues
  • Include meaningful, reasonable, and measurable outcomes
  • Have a long-term impact on the patients and families served by Ascension St. Michael’s Hospital, Ascension Medical Group, Ministry Dental Center, Ascension Behavioral Health and/or Ascension Health at Home

St. Michael’s Foundation does not generally fund:

  • Financial support to individuals
  • Contributions to annual fund drives
  • Contributions to endowment funds
  • Contributions to capital campaigns outside of Ascension Health Care
  • Special Events or Sporting Events

Types of Grants Funded

Program Grants:

Program grants support new programs or expansion of existing programs that impact the patients and families served by Ascension St. Michael’s Hospital, Ascension Medical Group, Ministry Dental Center, Ascension Behavioral Health and/or Ascension Health at Home.

Capital Grants:

Capital grants support the construction, purchase and renovation of facilities and the purchase of equipment for departments within Ascension St. Michael’s Hospital, Ascension Medical Group, Ministry Dental Center, Ascension Behavioral Health and/or Ascension Health at Home.

Deadline for Applications:

Applications are due the first Friday of the following months:  January, March, May, July, September and November.  Applications can be mailed, hand delivered to the Foundation Office, or emailed to grants@ministryhealth.org.

Notification of Approval/Denial:

Grants are announced approximately six weeks after the deadline.  When final approval is given from St. Michael’s Foundation Board of Directors, recipients are notified of approval or denial of their grant request.  Recipients of grant dollars have one year to utilize the funds, unless other alternative arrangements have been agreed by the grantor and grantee.
