Hip replacement surgery relieves pain for Nashville racquetball player

Hip replacement surgery at Ascension Saint Thomas Joint Replacement Institute in Nashville helps William walk and play sports again.

William, 57, struggled with his hip locking up for a couple of years before things took a turn for the worse.

“It got to the point where I needed crutches because I was in so much pain,” William said.

William grew up playing tennis and picked up racquetball after attending college. He said his hip injury was likely due to playing the two sports for more than 50 years.

After trying physical therapy to help loosen his hips and alleviate the pain, William’s doctor suggested hip replacement surgery at Ascension Saint Thomas Joint Replacement Institute.

“I tried everything before doing the surgery,” William said. “I truly wish I would have done it earlier.”

William said the physical therapy he did before surgery helped him during his recovery process.

“From the nurses, to the surgery, to the follow-up care, it was very well done,” William said. “It was a great experience.”

Since his recovery, William is enjoying racquetball again and recently started playing pickleball.
