The Journey To A New You

Our weight-loss management program is a step-by-step process, and our caring ministry staff will guide and support you through every step of your journey.

  • Is Bariatric Surgery Right For Me?

Weight loss surgery is a deeply personal, life-changing decision - but you're not alone. We can provide you with the professional support your need to take back your life. It is important to have the answers to these questions as you explore surgical weight loss options.

    • What is my BMI (Body Mass Index) and does it qualify me for surgery?
    • Does my current weight cause any other chronic health conditions?
    • Can I commit to weight loss efforts required by my insurance plan?
    • Am I willing to make the changes required to live a healthier and more productive life?

    Insurance Considerations

Insurance might seem daunting, especially if you aren't sure what your insurance provider will cover. To assist you through this process, Ascension has an authorization specialist who will help you determine your insurance provider's requirements and submit you for coverage after you have met the criteria.

Calculate Your BMI (Body Mass Index)

"I became the queen of yo-yo dieting. I tried every fad diet and pill on the market. Every time I would lose weight and then then gain it all back plus more. Something had to change! My decision for weight loss surgery:
    •  Health – diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, obesity
    •  Nurse/Caregiver – I take care of everyone else, and I needed to start taking care of me.
    •  My Future – I wanted to be able to enjoy retirement and any future grandchildren I may have."

  • Recovering from Weight Loss Surgery

Many changes will take place after surgery and the care teams at the Ascension Wisconsin Bariatrics Program will be with you from the moment you come out of surgery through the first few days following surgery and beyond.

Your surgeon will decide when you are ready to leave the hospital, based on your progress. Most patients spend one night in the hospital. Our care team will guide you through your personal changes post-surgery and provide you with education to help you adjust to your new diet and lifestyle.

When you return home, plan on taking things easy for a while. Your body will be recovering from major surgery and weight loss during the recovery period. However, light activity, such as frequent short walks, is recommended. It is also important to follow your specific nutrition guidelines and to keep up your fluid intake with small, frequent sips.

Your care team will be in frequent contact with you after you are discharged from the hospital. The courage you had to take the first step will guide you to your success and we will be right by your side. To learn more about the recovery process, watch or attend one of our seminars.
