The Bariatric Surgery Process: Steps Along the Journey to a New You

A New You: Continuing Care and Support

Surgery gives you a physical tool to assist with weight loss, but you must be committed to making the mental and emotional changes necessary for long-term weight loss and maintenance.

Success includes your commitment to regularly taking vitamins and supplements, eating healthy, exercising and attending all follow-up visits. You will continue to see your surgery team frequently after surgery. Our team is available at your follow-up visits as well as by phone to help you with your lifestyle changes.

We offer regular support groups to help you stay focused and healthy throughout your post-operative weight-loss journey. Support is one of the key ingredients to long-term success. Maintaining a healthy weight takes a lot of work and support. We offer a wide range of services to further assist your weight loss goals. Our bariatric support groups are led by health care professionals and are designed to give you the opportunity to spend time with others who have had or are pursuing bariatric surgery. Registration is not required. You are welcome to attend before and after surgery.

Back-on-Track Post-Surgical Program

Lifelong follow-up with a bariatric surgery team is recommended following bariatric surgery, however we understand that some patients may benefit from additional support. If your bariatric surgery took place greater than one year prior and you are experiencing challenges with additional weight loss, this program may be right for you! Please request a referral to our Back-on-Track program during your routine surgical follow-up appointment.

"I chose Borgess for my bariatric surgery because the staff made me feel like they cared about me. Since the surgery, I'm a lot more willing to go out and do things. I wanted to challenge myself."
